South Bracknell Review
On behalf of the staff and Governing Body, I would like to thank all of you for your support over the past few months. The Pines Parents Action Group have successfully arranged visits from newspapers and TV, as well as the local MP Andrew McKay, and made known your feelings. A group of parents met with Alan Ward earlier this week and put forward their points of view. We will keep you informed of future developments as they occur. Back to topSoccer Squirts
Neil is delighted that he will be able to run an after school soccer squirts club in the summer term for children in Nursery and Reception. This will be on Thursdays at 3.30 We are trying to get an idea of numbers so if you think your child would like to join this fun activity please let either the office or Neil know. His contact number is 01344 649257 / 07930803696 Back to topHealthy Schools
A number of you expressed an interest in having a secure place to leave children?s bikes and scooters during the school day. I am putting together a travel plan in order to apply for a grant towards this. The children have been asked about how they usually travel to and from school. The next step is to see if there is a potential for change [ for example, the numbers of children who would like to cycle or walk but are unable to do so.] I also need to know the most important deterrents to walking, cycling or using public transport. Please would you complete the enclosed questionnaire and return it before half term. Back to topUniform
The usual request - please make sure all clothing is named. It really is impossible to return something if we do not know who it belongs to!!! Back to topCurriculum News
The Berkshire Young Musician Trust woodwind ensemble entertained us during the first week of term, playing the clarinet, flute and oboe. Last week the children enjoyed listening to the author Eammon Reilly reading extracts from his books, which are available to buy. Representatives from the Junior School Council and Peer Mediators explained their roles to Y2 children. Children from Y1 visited the Junior School to use their ICT suite and Y2 will do so after half term. Back to topReading Club
Remember Reading Club starts at 8.30 and you are welcome to come in out of the cold. During the winter months we are keeping the main door closed to maintain some heat. I have been requested by POSH to ask you not to ring their bell in the morning. Also please use the Community Room and the hall for reading, NOT the corridor?for safety reasons. As you will have noticed the corridor becomes very congested and it is difficult for teachers to collect children and then be on time to open the playground doors, as well as for POSH children to get to the Junior?s on time. Hopefully you will also have noticed some of the new books on the bookshelf. Back to topBook Club
Don?t forget that Tuesday is the day to send in money for Book Club. The trolley will be going around for the children to buy a book before half-term. Book Club is available for children throughout the school. The money raised is used to buy more books to sell and for reading club and the library. Back to topCake Sales
The first cake sale of 2004 raised £46.45 and Mrs. Brooker?s is today. The other dates are 27th February for Mrs. Wood?s class, 12th March for Miss Gailer?s class and 26th March for MissMargrie?s class. Last term we raised over £220 and hope to beat that this time. Please bring your cakes on the day. We will need 3 or 4 parents who can come in at 3pm to set up and help sell the cakes. Please let your child know if you can help. We will use the money raised for the Healthy Schools ideas. Back to top
