September 2004

Welcome back to the new school year! The children have all settled into their new classes and are working hard with their new teachers. I hope you all felt that
meeting your child?s next teacher last term was worthwhile and has helped make the transition easier all round. A special welcome to our new families.

BICYCLE SHELTER
We were successful in our bid for a travel plan grant from the DfES and during the summer the bicycle shelters were erected. Thank you to the parents who suggested the idea and worked on the Travel Plan. The shelters are for children attending the
Infants and Nursery who come to school by bike or scooter. Please would you
encourage your child to wear a helmet and reflective clothing and to take care riding their bikes and show consideration for others. Please be careful at the end of the day when a lot of people are walking through the playground. Nursery parents should go to the office to request that the gates are opened at the end of the morning session or at the start of the afternoon session. The Office staff have the keys and are happy to open the gates and lock them again to ensure the safety of children in school. The school does not take responsibility for any vehicle left in the shelter so I ask you to make sure your bike/scooter is secure. Please would you also ensure that children do not use the shelters as climbing frames. Families attending this school are welcome to park bikes belonging to older brothers and sisters attending the Juniors providing there is space, however priority will be given to children from the Nursery and Infants and if this becomes a problem Junior children will not be allowed space. SCHOOL UNIFORM
It is lovely to see the children looking smart at the start of the new school year. Children should come to school in uniform every day. Uniform is a grey or green skirt/pinafore, grey trousers, green and white dresses, white shirts, polo shirts or blouses and a green jumper or sweatshirt. Shoes should be appropriate for school [no heels]. Trainers are not suitable for everyday wear ? please make sure your child has school shoes. PE kit should be kept in school and children require a change of shoes when using the adventure play equipment. Each class has been allocated a day, with the 5th day to compensate for rainy days. READING
There has been a lot of news about the important part parents and home play in
children learning to read. I cannot stress the importance of spending 5?10 minutes each day reading with your child?it really makes a difference to learning all around not just in reading. Some children will receive additional support in school for
Reading and all children are encouraged to change books frequently.
Reading Club takes place every morning ? Story Sacks are still available for you to take home and share with your child. Please let me know if you want to take part in this scheme.
The school Book Club is a way of saving up to buy books at bargain prices. Please send in your card and money in a named envelope on TUESDAY. Back to top
DRINKING WATER & FRUIT
The children may bring in water in a named, clear, plastic bottle to drink during the day. Children in the Infants may bring a piece of fruit for a snack at breaktime. The Nursery staff request 50p per week and buy different seasonal fruit for the children. Back to top

Thank you to the parents who returned the feedback to Governors and Headteacher at the end of the summer term.
